Canberra-based physical educator, John Miller, is a corporate health seminar lecturer and keynote speaker.

His seminar presentations are designed to inspire and motivate people to keep themselves fit and healthy to the best of their ability.

John has a unique ability to put across concepts relating to health, fitness and well being in an entertaining, thought provoking and deceptively simple way.

John is a health, fitness and well being program innovator and author.

He's a Graduate in Arts and Physical Education from the University of Adelaide and Education from the University of South Australia. He's a qualified fitness leader.

He's worked as a PhysEd teacher and consultant; he's managed the Australian physical education professional association; he's been the Director of the South Australian Recreation Institute and Manager of the Australian Institute of Sport's Health Management Centre. He's run his own fitness centre.

He's a Jolly Good Fellow of the Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (ACHPER).

I started my professional career as a PhysEd teacher and now earn my living as a health, fitness and wellbeing seminar presenter, program developer and author. For some years I ran Fit and Healthy, a boutique fitness centre where I pioneered the Global Back Care Program.

My work is directed toward inspiring and motivating people to keep themselves fit and healthy to the best of their ability, and encouraging them to open the doors of perception about what they can do to keep themselves in good shape.

I believe it's a big ask in our society expecting to stay healthy without keeping yourself fit and that it's an even bigger ask expecting to get better by having someone do something to you. Sooner or later you have to do something to yourself.

To this extent I'm a critic of selective-evidence and increasingly pharmaceutically based medicine which continues to narrow the perception of how fit and healthy you need to be to successfully navigate the rapids of poor health.

I hold the optimistic belief that there is a good chance that doing the exercises in the Global Back Care Program will go a long way toward fixing yourself up. They did for me. In fact I'd go as far as to say that for 80% of people there is an 80% chance that they will fix themselves up to the point where function is restored to 80% of normal.

Our surveys show that up to 50% of people over the age of 40 register a score of 5 or less out of 10 for back pain, where at 10 is no pain at all and at zero the pain is excruciating.

We're in the midst of an epidemic of musculo-skeletal dysfunction, caused principally by weak and tight muscles.

That's the band news. The good news is that once people embark on a strength and flexibility training program there is a good chance that they can restore poor function to good.

This is neither rocket not medical science. In fact the Chinese have been doing a lot of the exercises I prescribe for thousands of years and it's kept those who keep doing them in exceptionally good shape.
